The Swedish Cervical Screening Registry contains information on Pap tests, including summons to organised screenings, evaluation (diagnoses) of cytological and histological tests on cervical specimens. The purpose of the registry is to improve the prevention of cervical cancer by providing an evidence base for evaluating and coordinating efforts to reduce incidence and mortality rates for cervical cancer, and to reduce adverse side effects of preventative interventions.
The registry covers all women resident in Sweden. Women aged 23-50 are currently called in every third year, and women aged 50-60 every fifth year, to organised screening.
