The purpose and objectives of the registry are to: increase knowledge about head and neck cancer, facilitate comparisons on the national and international levels concerning treatment and results, enable the identification of potential weaknesses in investigation and treatment, and generate hypotheses and stimulate research and development in the field.
The Swedish National Quality Registry for Head and Neck Cancer includes all newly diagnosed cancers of the lip, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, nose, sinuses and salivary glands. The registry covers both surgical and oncological treatment.
The registry contained 5,695 diagnoses on 8 October 2012.
Number of diagnoses per year (updated 8 Oct 2012): 2011: 1,292 diagnoses, 2010: 1,271 diagnoses, 2009: 1,250 diagnoses and 2008: 1,271 diagnoses.
Coverage rate in comparison to the cancer registry (updated 4 Sept 2012): 2011: 96 percent, 2010: 99 percent, 2009: 99 percent and 2008: 99 percent.
