Description of registry

The registry consists of five sub-registries that compile clinical data on patients hospitalised at, or in cooperation with, infectious disease clinics for the diagnoses bacterial meningitis, bacterial endocarditis, pneumonia, infection in prosthetic joint, and community-acquired severe sepsis.

Population

Included patients are primarily those who have been cared for at an infectious disease clinic for any of the above diseases. To some extent, patients at other clinics can also be included if the infectious disease clinic participated in the supervision of the patient.

Ages in the registry

Generally speaking, any age, but since children and adolescents are usually cared for at paediatric clinics, the registry mainly comprises patients over 18 years of age.

Total volume of registry

Through 29 February 2016, a total of 46,013 disease episodes were registered.

Volume over the past operating year

5,535 disease episodes were registered in 2015.

Coverage rate

As evidenced by the inclusion criteria above, it is difficult to specify an exact denominator for the calculation of coverage rate. We estimate that there are about 8,000-9,000 cases per year, which means a coverage rate currently in the range of 70-80 percent.

Note: Variable lists are updated on a regular basis and should therefore be seen as preliminary. For the latest version, please contact the registry.
