The objective of this registry is to improve the quality of foot and ankle surgery.
Nearly 20 000 elective foot and ankle surgeries are performed each year in Sweden. Scientific data in foot and ankle surgery methodology is rather limited. It is hoped that the large scale of the registry will provide increased evidence for selecting methods. Local improvement measures can help sort out ineffective surgical methods.
The registry contains information on surgery in forefoot, hindfoot and ankle including deformities, osteoarthrosis and soft tissue disorders.
Basic data, co-morbidity, diagnosis and intervention, as well as generic and region-specific PROMs are included. Registration is conducted online after the surgery. The patient registers PROM pre-op, 1- and 2-year post-op, online or using paper forms.
Generally, all elective operations on the foot/ankle are included in the registry except osteoarthritis in connection to the ankle. It is estimated that approximately 20 000 foot and ankle surgeries are performed annually in both public and private clinics.
It is not realistic to expect all of these to be registered, but a coverage rate of about 80 percent must be considered acceptable.
Over age 16.
The registry was started in 2015 and has about 15 800 registered surgeries.
58 percent of clinics performing foot surgeries in Sweden are involved in the registry.
Note: Variable lists are updated on a regular basis and should therefore be seen as preliminary. For the latest version, please contact the registry.
